The Transform Trip

The Transform Trip is designed for college-aged students to have deeper discussions and experiences surrounding ministry, justice, local governments and poverty.

Not only will you build a house alongside a family in Mexico, but this week-long trip will include more than just building! You’ll also spend time with our team as you explore local ministries, visit with local government agencies, and learn more about life in Mexico.

Any faith background is welcome, but be aware we will attend Christian services, worship, and have conversations surrounding faith.

Dates: May 12th-May 19th, 2025

Location: Tijuana, Mexico

Age Requirement: 18-24 years old

Cost:  $800/person

The Transform Trip includes:

  • Transportation across the border and within Mexico (transportation to/from San Diego is on your own)
  • All meals
  • Building project (house materials and tools)
  • Mexican cooking class
  • Ministry opportunities
  • Local museum visit
  • Campfire time led by the Amor team

What to Expect

At the Worksite

  • An expert from Amor will be with you on site to guide the building process.
  • It’s easy to think that the house is the most important part of the trip, but we are really here to love and serve people. Take time to talk to the family (even if you don’t know Spanish!), play with kids, or invite people to join in the work!
  • All of the tools are provided.
  • Discover that you can make a big impact in a few days!

At Camp

  • La Cocina, our catering service run by locals, provides us with meals for the week. They cook their own recipes and take care of meals, snacks, coffee, water, and Gatorade.
  • Camp caretakers watch the people and things at camp 24/7. Amor staff members will be with the group both at camp and at the worksite.
  • The experience at camp is very similar to how the families live – pit toilets (a port-a-potty over a hole in the ground) and bucket and/or solar showers.
  • Each night we have time to share about the day around the campfire and hear from leaders in the community.
  • We provide the tents. You are responsible for sleeping bags and sleeping pads.

During your Trip

  • In the evenings, you’ll have free time at our Amor Store as well as campfire worship and conversations surrounding faith, justice and poverty.
  • We’ll visit the CECUT museum which shares the history of Mexico and Mexican culture.
  • We’ll attend a church that meets alongside the border wall in Mexico.
  • We’ll meet with local government agencies—in the past, we’ve met at the US Consulate in Tijuana and hope to do this again!
  • We’ll spend time learning from other local ministries in the area.
